CRC Technology Helps Lead to Arrest of Palm Beach County Firefighter Accused of Possessing 300 Files of CSAM
- April 18, 2025
A Palm Beach County firefighter is facing serious charges after being accused of possessing over 300 files of child sexual abuse material (CSAM.)
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), the investigation began on March 5, when a deputy using CRC Technology discovered hundreds of “child notable” images and videos tied to a single IP address. According to the probable cause affidavit, out of the 348 files reviewed, 62 videos depicting CSAM. Investigators worked with the internet service provider to trace the address to the suspect: 44-year-old William Barbre, a Captain with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
On April 15, PBSO executed a search warrant at Barbre’s home and made contact with him. During the encounter, Barbre allegedly admitted to downloading the material, telling deputies he views the files, feels “repugnant,” and then deletes them. A forensic examination of Barbre’s Dell computer—located in his garage—reportedly uncovered hundreds of files of CSAM.
Barbre has been charged with 30 counts of possessing, controlling, or intentionally viewing CSAM. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue has placed Barbre on administrative leave without pay. We are honored to work with Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and congratulate their hard work arresting this dangerous child predator.
