Brazil Federal Police Launch Operation Surveillance

  • May 17, 2024

On May 18th, 2024, Brazil Federal Police launched Operation Surveillance, which culminated in the successful arrest of a predator. According to the Federal Police, “the month of May is called Orange May, and is intended to raise awareness about combating abuse and sexual exploitation of children and adolescents. Furthermore, May 18th is considered the National Day to Combat Abuse and Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents, in memory of the girl Araceli Cabrera Sánchez Crespo, who was brutally murdered on May 18, 1973, in Vitória/ ES. Her body was found six days after her disappearance, with marks of extreme violence, sexual abuse and disfigured by an acidic substance.”

During the operation, Brazil Federal Police, with the aid of CRC Technology, were able to identify and arrest a 38-year-old man in Piúma who was found with over 1,500 files of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) depicting children under 7 years of age on his device. The suspect faces entry into the prison system.

We’re proud of our law enforcement colleagues in Brazil for taking bold steps to fight child sexual abuse and exploitation — and we’re honored that our technology aids in the identification of these dangerous criminals.
