24 Arrested in Spain for the Production and Distribution of CSAM
- July 16, 2024
This month, CRC Technology aided National Police in Spain in the identification and the arrests of twenty-four suspects across the country in an operation against the production, distribution, and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
“For the Spanish National Police, and specifically for the Child Protection III Team of the Central Cybercrime Unit, the identification of users who distribute CSAM content on P2P networks is a priority, since in Spain it is one of the main channels for the distribution of content. Moreover, as we have seen over time, many of these users commit, in parallel to the possession and distribution of this illegal content, other crimes against minors online, such as grooming, sexting or even the production of paedophile content. Crimes in which there are minors who are victims and who do not report these serious acts to the authorities. For this reason, this tool [CRC Technology] is key as it is often the only way to reach these high value targets and stop their activity,” said the Spanish National Police.
Among the twenty-four arrested, several had groomed and coerced minors in their area. One offender was found to have coerced a 16-year-old girl into sexual video calls and covertly recorded them. Another offender was dedicated to the distribution of this horrific content and had also contacted a minor.
Law enforcement confiscated 21 mobile phones, 64 hard drives, 22 computers, four tablets, 32 USB, six memory cards and 52 DVDs for further investigation.
