Australian Authorities Arrest Dangerous Child Predator with Help From Child Rescue Coalition Technology

  • October 2, 2025

A 61-year-old man from Canberra, Australia, who exploited children online for more than a decade has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after an investigation led by Australian law enforcement, with support from the Child Rescue Coalition.

In January 2021, police raided the Kambah home of Richard James Roy after he was identified through online child exploitation investigation. Officers seized multiple devices containing more than 500 videos of child abuse material and evidence of sustained online exploitation of at least eight unidentified children.

Roy pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including using a carriage service to exploit children and possessing and producing child abuse material. He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with a seven-year non-parole period and will be eligible for release in 2032.
