- January 11, 2011
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 59-year-old Avondale man following a months-long investigation into child sexual abuse material (CSAM) utilizing CRC Technology.
John Pappas was taken into custody at his home in Avondale and faces eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of dangerous crimes against children, according to authorities.
In May, detectives executed a search warrant at Pappas’ residence and although initial searches of his computer did not yield CSAM, forensic technicians to analyze previously overwritten files. This technology enabled law enforcement to recover deleted images from a hard drive, which later confirmed the presence of CSAM.
CRC Technology provides the most comprehensive view of where child predators around the world are downloading and sharing explicit content online.
On November 14, Pappas was formally arrested.
